IUPESM MEP Early Career Competition

1. Aim
IUPESM MEP Early Career Competition is primarily focused on collaborative activities between medical physicists (MP) and biomedical engineers (BME) with direct contribution to improvement of clinical values and increasing the impact of physical and engineering sciences in healthcare.
The purpose of the IUPESM MEP Early Career Competition is to recognize excellence in conference contributions whose primary authors are young teams of investigators from the MP and the BME profession, based on originality, clarity, and potential impact on practical applications or theoretical foundations in healthcare.

2. Eligibility
IUPESM MEP criteria for Early Career teams:
• Teams of Medical Physicists and Biomedical Engineers
• At least one MP and one BME team member should be under the age of 40 years
• One of the young investigators must be the first author of the paper and must personally present the paper at the conference

3. Submission
The papers for the Competition must be sent through the regular conference submission system. When submitting the paper to the conference, candidates must confirm that they want to participate in the Competition.

4. Awards Committee
The IUPESM MEP Early Career Awards Committee consists of six distinguished researchers distributed as follows:
• The co-coordinators/co-chairs of the IUPESM MEP, or other experts proposed by IUPESM MEP
• Two representatives from the region – one with expertise in Medical Physics and one with expertise in Biomedical Engineering
• Two representatives from the IUPESM constituent organizations – one from IOMP and one from IFMBE
The Committee Members are proposed respectively by IUPESM MEP, the regional conference organizing committee, IOMP and IFMBE and approved by the IUPESM AC (or president).
The IUPESM MEP Early Career Awards Committee must be appointed within fifteen days after the deadline for the submission of the papers.

5. Conflict of Interest
Members of the IUPESM MEP Early Career Awards Committee are not allowed to be authors or co-authors of the competitors.

6. Selection
The IUPESM MEP Early Career Awards Committee makes the initial selection of papers based on the regular conference paper review procedure. Further selection is made on additional reviews of the papers of the finalists. Final decision includes evaluation of the oral presentation at the conference in regular sessions. Each paper must be reviewed by at least one of the IUPESM MEP Early Career Awards Committee members during the reviewing process.

7. Finalists
The number of finalists may vary depending on the number of the participants of the conference and/or the number of Early Career Investigators who entered the Competition but should not be less than 3 or more than 10.
The names of the finalists are announced on the website at least one month before the beginning of the conference.

8. IUPESM MEP Early Career Awards
The awards for the best papers; first, second and third place are awarded at the Closing Ceremony of the Conference.
The winners will be presented with the Awards at the Closing Ceremony of the Conference.
The Awards are presented jointly by a member of the IUPESM MEP Early Career Awards Committee and the IUPESM President.
The Award comprises of a diploma, a publication slot at the IUPESM journal Health and Technology, and a monetary prize. Diplomas are provided by IUPESM.
